MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE BODY MASS INDEX
The healthy weight range is based on a measurement known as the Body Mass Index (BMI).
You can work this out with your height and weight.
Make allowances if you are heavily built, BMI varies between men and women.
BMI Calculator
To calculate Body Mass Index manually, use this method.
- Measure your height in metres and multiply the figure by itself.
- Measure your weight in kilograms and then divide the weight by the height.
- For example you are 1.7m (5 feet 7 inches) tall and weigh 68kg (10 stone, 8lb), this is the calculation:
- 1.7 x 1.7 = 2.89
- Your BMI would be 68 divided by 2.89 = 23.53
- This places you in the OK category so you wouldn't have to lose weight.
